As summer announces itself in France with the tentative re-opening of bars and restaurants, hotels also get ready to open their doors later this month. We were lucky enough to stay at Hotel du Cap last September, for the first time, and it was an incredible experience if only for 1 night.
Maybe it’s the knowledge that this is hotel royalty. When the Cannes Film Festival takes place this is HQ and is booked up years in advance. However for the rest of the year you can stay here and probably still bump into Hollywood around the pool as the whole property is covered in stardust. Only open in the summer months Hotel du Cap occupies a privileged place on the coast overlooking Cannes and the Russian oligarch navy of floating dream palaces. Just sit by the pool and watch the world around you as people come and go looking for the best positions. Jump off, or dive if you’re brave, the diving board into the bluest of blue Mediterranean seas beneath. Choose from the 2 divine pools or perhaps take yourself off to even more privileged privacy and book a cabana with friendly staff coming and going to make sure you get through the day.
But don’t peak too early because you have the evening to look forward to and a selection of incredible restaurants on the waters edge. From super formal to a laid back sushi bar and fresh fish accompanied by the gentle tinkling of ivory from the piano you can spend a few hours over cocktails and dinner before you realise it.
Book Suite 5 if you can. Huge. Sumptuous. Divine. Fall out of bed onto the adjoining breakfast terrace or a few more steps into the lobby. I dare you to even want to go out and explore the nearby town of Antibes. We tried and gave up after an hour as we couldn’t bear to be away from the hotel any longer.
